RFID in Agriculture

The agriculture industry is demanding a cost effective technology that offers significantly enhanced efficiencies in data management, data transfer speed, automation and trace back. With some countries exporting more than 75 percent of their livestock products, there is a dire concern over the economic ramifications of a disease outbreak and the inability to ensure national and international food safety. Consequently, a growing number of governments which includes Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States, the European Union and others have implemented, or have indicated their intent to implement, mandatory livestock identification. Mandatory identification ensures that a food safety tracking system is in place to trace back diseased animals to their origin for immediate containment or eradication.
One of the features our technology offers is an electronic means of tracking individual animals through all stages of the commercial livestock production cycle. Our radio frequency identification (RFID) products for use in animals include ultra high frequency (UHF) visual ear tags and embedded low frequency (LF) microchips. Each UHF tag or LF microchip is uniquely numbered, providing positive global identification of an individual animal.
The embedded LF microchip features a custom integrated circuit coil and capacitor hermetically sealed in biocompatible glass containing a programmed identification number. The whole device is small enough to fit inside a hypodermic needle and is simply injected under the skin of an animal, where it will stay for the life of the animal. This provides a permanent and positive identification which cannot be lost, altered or removed - a safe, simple and inexpensive way to protect an animal against loss or theft. Once injected under the skin of an animal, the LF microchip becomes encased by a thin layer of protein that anchors it in place for the rest of the animal's life. It does not pass through or out of the body. The microchip requires no maintenance as it has no power supply or any moving parts. Therefore, the life expectancy of our microchips can last for decades - well beyond the life span of any animal.
Based on our proven product mix and global project know-how, many have chosen us to be their animal RFID solutions provider. Our customers gain tremendous benefit from our sophisticated identification solutions, at economical prices.
